The Senate impeachment trial ended on Saturday largely as predicted — 10 votes shy of conviction, with the vast majority of Republicans refusing to hold Donald Trump accountable. It was a betrayal of the American people who deserve better than the Republican Party’s ongoing embrace of dangerous extremists, including Trump and the insurrectionists he incited to storm the U.S. Capitol. In the absence of a conviction, it’s clear that the best way to combat extremism, ensure accountability and pursue justice is to defeat Republicans at the polls.

Sadly, the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump ended as we predicted — he was acquitted by a vote of 57–43 — with only seven Republicans voting with all 50 Democrats to convict, because Republicans lack the political courage to do what’s right. Here’s how events transpired on this first, and hopefully last, “impeachment Shabbat.”

Last night around 10pm, Washington Republican Rep. Jamie Herrera Beutler courageously came forward with a statement confirming that she knew GOP Leader McCarthy called on Trump to “publicly and forcefully call off the riot” amid the insurrection on January 6…

The horrific and deeply disturbing violence at the Capitol last week obscured a profoundly important moment — the election of Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to the United States Senate from the State of Georgia. At the same time, the insurrection underscored for me, and I suspect many others, the importance of electing public officials of character and integrity, who bring to their offices the values our nation has always cherished.

We have known for some time that Donald Trump and those who support his deeply divisive and dangerous behavior do not embrace those values, and…

On the eve of the November election, I wrote that history would be watching American voters and judging those who abandoned our values by voting for Donald Trump. As I characterized it, Americans faced a binary question — “will we choose the path of authoritarianism and hatred with Trump, or will we choose decency and democracy with Joe Biden?” Two and half months later, on the day of Joe Biden’s Inauguration, the choice facing Americans today is no longer binary, and lasting change requires more than winning an election.

The following letter, which was circulated by the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), asks Rabbis, Cantors, and other Jewish faith leaders to reject attempts to divide the Black and Jewish communities, and to divide the Jewish community, by spreading falsehoods about candidate for U.S. Senate, Rev. Raphael Warnock.

This is not an endorsement letter, rather a rejection of the attempts at division. Those who sign are representing themselves and not the organizations they are affiliated with.

Joe Biden has the competence, integrity, and demeanor to lead us out of the self-inflicted crisis that Donald Trump has created in America. Thanks to Donald Trump’s denial of science and inability to lead, more than 230,000 Americans have died from coronavirus, and millions more have been infected. All of them now have pre-existing conditions and could find themselves without access to quality, affordable healthcare following the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. She will, in all likelihood, join the Republican-appointed majority to overturn the Affordable Care Act and Roe…

Donald Trump and his Republican supporters wish that the Democrats had nominated Sen. Bernie Sanders. They thought that running against a self-proclaimed socialist would lead to an easy win. For better or worse, Joe Biden easily defeated Sen. Sanders and his other opponents and won the Democratic nomination for president. …

If You’re Voting on the Economy, Vote for Joe Biden

By Michael Tarnoff

Two fundamental maxims of politics apply in nearly every presidential campaign: “it’s the economy stupid” and “change vs. more of the same.” The 2020 presidential campaign is unique in many respects, but if anything, these maxims are even more relevant today than in the past. That’s why the Trump campaign continues to push the false narrative that Trump, and only Trump, is good for the economy. He is right to focus on the economy, as polls indicate that it is one of the top issues for American…

If you remember nothing else, remember this:

  • Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) has strong ties to the Jewish and pro-Israel communities.
  • Trump suffered a major diplomatic defeat at the UN on Friday, again proving the incoherence of his Iran policy.
  • The roadmap to normalization between Israel and the UAE suspends unilateral annexation efforts that Trump had encouraged.
  • Normalization of ties between Israel and any Arab country is good, but the existential threat to Israel was never chilly relations with the UAE and it is too early to assess the significance of this development.
  • Trump’s Middle East policy has…

If you remember nothing else, remember this:

  • A two-state solution is essential for Israel to remain Jewish and democratic, which is why the pro-Israel community must oppose unilateral annexation.
  • Peter Beinart’s binational state is not the preferred option, but could become the only option if we do not support a two-state solution.
  • The 2020 Democratic Platform will remain firmly pro-Israel.
  • Trump appointed another white supremacist to a key position in his administration. Trump is the most powerful anti-Semite in America.
  • Which is a greater threat? Anti-Semitism combined with political power or anti-Semitism in the world of celebrity…
